Animal Project - Whale (CM)
Scientific name: Orcinus Orca.
Orcas are mammals and are apex predators.
Orcas are also called Killer Whales as they hunt dolphins, fish, octopus, seals, and whales, making them carnivores.
They can be found in all of the world's oceans.
Most orcas are found in colder waters such as the North Pacific Ocean but they can also be found in tropical waters.
Orcas have black and white bodies. They have 45 teeth and they grip their prey with their strong jaws.
Male orcas range between 6 to 8 meters long and females range from 5 to 7 meters in length. They weigh 5,400kg.
Orcas can live between 50 and 80 years in the wild.
A baby orca is called a calve.
A group of killer whales is called a pod.
They can swim at speeds from 10km per hour to 45km per hour.
