Animal Project - Mole (CM)
Scientific name: Talpa europaea
They are small mammals with fur, small ears, and eyes, small feet, and large paws, which help them dig underground.
Male moles are called boars and female moles are called sows.
Moles live all over the world and travel through a system of tunnels. They live in habitats such as grassland, gardens, and woodlands.
Each day, a mole can dig up to 20 meters of tunnel
A group of moles is called a labour.
On average, they grow between 11 and 15 centimeters and weigh between 70 and 120 grams.
Their diet consists of earthworms and insects.
Baby moles are called pups.
Moles are colourblind.
In English, there is a phrase "making a mountain out of a molehill". This comes from when moles dig their tunnels, the ground is piled up and becomes a molehill.
Moles are preyed upon by foxes, owls, and snakes.
