Animal Project - Jellyfish (Megan's example)

Despite their name, jellyfish are not fish - they are invertebrates (animals with no backbones). They have stinging cells in their tentacles, which paralyse their prey before eating them.  Jellyfish live in oceans and float in the water. The size of jellyfish can range from 2 centimetres to 7 feet. Jellyfish are 98% water. They eat other sea animals and algae. Types of jellyfish include Box Jellyfish, Deep-Sea Jellyfish, Irukandji Jellyfish, and Moon  Jellyfish. A group of jellyfish is called a smack. Some jellyfish are clear whilst others are blue, yellow, pink, and purple. Additionally, jellyfish can be bioluminescent, which means that they can produce their own light. Jellyfish have no bones, brain, or heart.  Their body is controlled by a nervous system.

Animal Project - X-ray Tetra Fish (CM)

Image
Scientific Name: Pristella maxillaris. They live in tropical, freshwater. X-ray tetra fish are omnivores so they eat plants and other animals such as insects and worms. The X-Ray Tetra Fish has striped fins and translucent/transparent scales - this make's the fish's bones visible.  Their clear scales protect them from predators as they are harder to see in the water. They live between 2 to 5 years. The length of the X-ray Tetra Fish ranges between 3 centimetres and 5 centimeters. They live in habitats such as the Amazon coastal waters (Brazil, Guyana, and Venezuela). Males are smaller and thinner than female X-ray Tetra fish. Young X-ray Tetra fish are called Frys. The biggest threats towards X-ray Tetra Fish are water pollution and deforestation.
